Dear Sam
There are moves in poi spinning that you can get yourself into, but cannot get yourself out of. These moves generally end with a flaming poi head or other hot metal wrapped around your forearm. You cannot do these moves sober. You have practiced. No amount of inebriation can make you able to do them.
Love,
The irritated scabs on your right forearm.

Dear Forearm.
It was a hell of a lot of fun, and I almost got it last weekend. Let me wash down these ibuprofen with beer, and you'll feel a lot better.

poi+ bourbon+ lack of sleep= coed thrill seeker sport. It's all fun and games til someone puts an eye out (or burns a nipple off), then it's a sport because you can keep score...
But, i light swords on fire and hit my friends (and try to keep them from hitting me), so i am not really the right person to judge... -

Particularly since you're willing to use said fire swords with me.

Yup. Which is surprising that they are the ones that burn me the most. Staff? no burns. Rope dart? no burns. F'ing meteor? one close call, but no burns. -

Re: notes to self, re: poi spinning
Wed, May 14, 2008 - 6:03 PMIf your not burning yourself with staff, either your wicks are too small, or you're not trying hard enough.
With meteor, you should be burning yourself on a regular basis, thy the Jared-neck-wrap-thing, it s sure fire way to get some good deep tissue burns to the neck and face!
Rope dart is just way too safe. Too much rope to be any fun at all.
When in doubt, use bigger wicks. I know you, Sam! If you want to spend any time in that hot tub spa thing in the burn unit, you're just going to have to put more effort into it.
Have you considered trying the less expensive acrylic fibers? They are quite slimming and fit skin tight.... -

Thu, May 15, 2008 - 9:58 AMyou were there for the last time I spun fire in synthetic fibers. That can't be mentioned here, as it was a real safety fifth or eighth moment.
perhaps I do need bigger wics.
